I can't begin to tell you how much I love this article. It's bad enough to hear these justifications from politicians and activists. Police leaders who repeat these lines have betrayed the law-abiding citizenry and demonstrated their cowardice, IMO.

There have been a few in my area who had started talking like this, and the thing is, I know they know better. So disappointing.

Giving offenders second chances (not a third, fourth, and so on), provided they are contrite, not a danger to society, and the crime isn't especially heinous, is one thing. It's problematic, however, when cops start expressing more sympathy for criminals than for crime victims. Running cover for criminal offenders may be the easy and popular thing to say in a blue city, but it harms the rest of us.
