Great piece! There's concern that today's weed contains much more THC than in years past. Coupled with the fact that there are indeed studies demonstrating that THC can alter the development of young brains, marijuana use is not as innocuous as some would lead us to believe.
Yeah but no. 3 cases? I'm sure when grouping any additional drugs to a preexisting mental illness terrible outcomes will be displayed. Marijuana is not the culprit. In fact, according to a study published in the American Journal of Public Health, there has never been a recorded death solely due to a toxic overdose of cannabis. Alcohol however, According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), excessive alcohol consumption led to approximately 95,000 deaths each year between 2011 and 2015, making it the third leading preventable cause of death in the US. There is no war on Alcohol or tobacco for that matter. So No marijuana shouldn't be or ever have been illegal.
Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of the topic. I’m not out to change anyone’s opinion on legalization. However, there are multiple studies from four different countries linked in the references that speak to the relationship between normal and high potency cannabis and psychosis, including in those without a previous manifestation or diagnosis. Self-harm including suicide also presents strongly in the research.
This is an extremely well researched and factual, viewpoint laced… Like the cartel provided marijuana… With gems of truth everywhere! I see this every day on the road. When will people wake up?
Well-written and intellectually honest reminder to those that think weed is a panacea. I’m pro legalization for adults though.

Preach it! We’ve been reporting in this for years, but the pro marijuana, anti police lobby are too loud and ignorant and won’t listen to facts.
Really interesting and a lot of research that I was unaware of.
This is a great topic that I don’t think much about and I’m glad that you tackled it.
I would really like to explore this more.
As an admitted “drug decriminalization” guy for the last 20 years - it’s always a good exercise to think about other points of view.
Really good job on this one!
